The Toshiba 42AV635DB is extremely inexpensive for what you get . A shiny new 42″ flat TV with lots of new technology for less than £500.
Even though there are even cheaper 42″ TVs, along with TVs that are only a little more expensive , this TV is still a great bargain due to its performance and features.
The 42AV635DB certainly doesn’t look as budget as it is. It’s got a glossy, slim black frame however, it does unfortunatly look a little plasticky when close enough to it.
The connections have four HDMIs, a dedicated PC port , and a USB port for JPEG photos .
There is no feature for video or music through USB which is unortunate but then none of the other Toshibas, no matter how costly in the range provide support for this either.
The 42AV635DB gives a Full HD resolution which would be difficult to find anywhere on a TV of this size at this price .
The video processing is still good despite the price , partly as Toshiba’s twin Resolution+ and Active Vision II are built into it . It can’t run at 100Hz but who needs that at this price with all these other great features.
Resolution+ is Toshibas system for upscaling from normal definition to fill a 1080 resolution screen. Active Vision II is Toshibas engine for video boosting .
This TV also has a tool which combines the ambient light level with the picture to display what the engine believes is the greatest picture settings. Then , there is the color managing system which allows you to alter the hue, saturation and the gain for the six colour constituents of quality picture . Plus , a static gamma adjustment, and the ability to set the starting point for the TV’s backlight adjustment feature.
The sound on the Toshiba 42AV635DB isn’t great for the bass side of things but the speakers tend not to play up unless placed under a lot of pressure. Although , the vocal sounds are clear and sharp . Again , for the low cost it’s still more than is to be expected.
