A special event can’t be complete without entertainment.  But choosing the kind of entertainment should suit the type of celebration, or else the whole occasion will, of course, sort of fall apart.  Music and entertainment are among the controlling elements that keep the guests  out of their seats and peeks their interest, particularly when there’s a lull in the activities.  This is true for weddings in addition to other significant occasions.  So before a couple hires someone to perform at the reception on their special day, they should think about several elements.

First, what is the central concept of the wedding?  Just like everything else – the decorations, the food, the wedding favors, the invitations – the entertainment must coincide with the concept the couple chooses.  They cannot hire an opera singer for a barnyard-inspired fall wedding, for instance, since it basically doesn’t match.

Will music be supplied by a live band or a DJ?   Although there is totally nothing wrong with getting a DJ handle the entertainment during a wedding, live bands seem to have a varied impact on the guests.  A stage filled with musicians brings more life to the event than recorded music played by a DJ.  A live band is also more versatile (provided they are professionals) and can take a sign from the way the guests are behaving if there is a need to cheer up the event a little more.

Whether the couple settles for a live band or a DJ, it’s significant that the person(s) they hire are reliable enough to do the job well.  The band or DJ must be prepared and ready before the guests start coming to the venue.  They should likewise be able to “read” the guests’ mood.

But the ideal entertainment for fall weddings need not be limited to the music.  Guests can be entertained by adding other forms of enjoyable activities.  There can be a square dance, for example, wherein guests are welcomed to take part; or a kind of raffle do guests can draw prizes from the pumpkin decorations or the autumn wedding favors beside their plates; or trivia where guests can answer questions concerning either the bride or groom.

There’s actually no strict rule as to what type of entertainment is best, just like there are no right or wrong fall wedding favors, or incorrect decorations.  The thing that makes a wedding and everything else perfect is when the guests leave with a light heart and smile on their faces.
