Commercial trucking is really a job that really needs courage, bravery, and a lot of focus and drive (no pun intended). The drivers showcased on History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers have these types of attributes in abundance, negotiating their rigs over some of the world’s most treacherous terrains. In the new History Channel series Deadliest Roads, a sister show to Ice Road Truckers, show veteran Lisa Kelly takes on the challenging and perilous roads of India.

Kelly will try her ability and good fortune against a few of the world’s most dangerous roads to be found, such as the feared Freefall Highway of the Himalayas. Kelly is made of tough stuff, growing up in Alaska where she’s accustomed to giving it her all and overcoming any situation. Of course, what really sets her apart from the other truckers is her gender.

Throughout the world, especially in demanding areas such as India and Alaska, has been a male dominated occupation. Kelly often uses her creativity to overcome situation in which she has a disadvantage.

Kelly had been driving trucks for many years and learned how dangerous the ice roads of Alaska might be. To her, traveling the frozen lakes in blizzard situations of the Alaskan wilderness were a familiar occurrence.

In 2009, Kelly showed her skills alongside the other drivers in season three of Ice Road Truckers by completing an impressive 15 loads along the infamous Dalton Highway. The highway, also known as Alaska Route 11, can be a treacherous road often riddled with blizards, storms, and avalanches. Together with her fellow truckers, Kelly was delivering supplies to the oil fields and for the numerous offshore rigs. The ride was nearly 500 miles and tested the mettle of the drivers. Kelly commonly attributes her success to understanding the conditions and weather from growing up in the area.

Dangerous Roads will offer no such familiarity as the show takes the drivers to India to combat the dangers of the Himalayas. India exposes a completely new host of challenges, including unique culture, unique rules of the road and even different rigs.

Several other drivers will join Kelly in the new show. Fellow drivers include Rick Yemm of season one and Dave Redmon of season five. Cultural challenges and overloaded streets are a few of the isues the three drivers will face. While the three are given native “spotters,” language and culture will be a pretty serious issue as they take their loads through the new and unfamiliar landscape.

Kelly consistently illustrates a positive approach about the new difficulties she faces. Looking forward to taking on new roads and a new country, she looks at the new season as an experience. She is optimistic in her expertise while sustaining a modest attitude to get the job done. She believes that patience is key – that and a willingness to accept that she can always learn from others.

Even though the site of a female driver is unusual, Kelly is a seasoned driver capable of handling herself in many different situations.
