Fawlty Towers: This is one programme you’d want to view not just one time, but many times. If anything, you actually appreciate it more. You surely won’t get bored of viewing the programme. It was created by John Cleese (well-known Monty Python member) and his previous wife, Connie Booth. In Fawlty Towers, Cleese takes on the role of Basil Fawlty who runs a modest Torquay hotel with Sybil, his wife. Connie Booth takes on the role of Polly, the hotel maid. Another character is Manuel, the Spanish waiter who hails from Barcelona. He’s attempting to learn how to speak English. Unfortunately, Manuel gets his English words all mixed up and he appears to not understand everything. Manuel is oftentimes the target of Basil’s maltreatment. Always appearing tense in the sitcom, Basil for the most part winds up striking Manuel or poking him in the eye.
Nonetheless, Basil is terrified of his wife, whom he thinks is a dragon. Basil does a lot of things without her knowledge but Sybil always catches him. Basil usually acts like he’s about to pass out whenever he knows he’s in deep trouble and he needs to buy himself some time. Basil isn’t your ideal hotel owner; his guests gets the discourteous treatment from him. In addition, he lies and no matter how hard he tries, he constantly seems to not succeed at everything. He MAKES Fawlty Towers and Cleese does a great job playing Basil. Now here’s a bit of trivia for you; Fawlty Towers was actually based on a genuine hotel and hotel manager. During one of his stays in a hotel as they were doing Monty Python, Cleese saw similar things happen.
Only Fools And Horses: Yet another one to watch before you die! It focuses on the Trotter brothers, Derek (Del Boy) and Rodney (who is frequently called a dipstick or plonker by Del). In this British sitcom, Del is the lead. He’s the one who makes the show comical. All the same, the other actors make the show a roaring success. Del is an independent dealer and constantly looking for bargains and trying to make quick cash. How he does it doesn’t matter much to him as long as he gets what he wants. Rodney, on the other hand, is somewhat more sensible and has scruples. Del’s the complete opposite of Rodney. To be sure that he comes out perfect, he’ll do and say anything. Del thinks he’s the smart one. You’ll often see him wrongly using big words or sounding like an utter fool each time he tries to utter French phrases to sound clever.
Different UK comedy shows to watch out for may be “Are You Being Served”, “My Family”, “Father Ted” plus the very funny, The Inbetweeners Movie. A lot of of the sitcoms are also available on dvd, including The Inbetweeners dvd, “Are You Being Served” and “The Good Life”.
