The way we watch TV is changing at a vast rate and while there are more homes than ever with television sets, watching our favourite shows on the flat screen is becoming something more of a rare luxury for many people.
It is more common these days for people to watch TV on portable devices such as iPads, phones and laptops.
A study carried out by Ofcom recently found that people in the 16-24 age group would struggle alot more without a portable device such as mobile phone than a TV*. The survey results showed that 28% of respondents said they would struggle without the use of a mobile phone.
Although TV is still the pastime we would miss most of all the number of respondents who claimed this in the same Ofcom study declined by 6% .*
The stats speak for themselves , as do the recently released figures by TV Licensing, which highlight that there were 887m attempts to watch programming an BBC’s iPlayer in 2010.
Not paying for a TV licence cannot be attributed to this as a TV Licence is still needed should you be watching TV through a mobile device such as a phone or iPad.
The behaviour of TV viewing may have changed amongst viewers however these changes can also be attributed to technological advancements by various companies looking to better meet the needs of the consumer.
Because there is a wide range of devices affordable devices on the market today, an ever growing audience is able to access various different media on the move. We are therefore able to watch what we want, when we want on the move .
And with the means to watch TV on the move becoming more widely available, it appears it may not be long before the TV set is eclipsed by it .
