Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins and Robert Sheehan star in The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

Lily Collins has admitted the hype surrounding her new film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones is strange but also humbling.

The actress plays Clary, a teenage girl with special powers, in fantasy film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, which is based on the first book of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. Lily and co-stars Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Sheehan have been shocked by the fans reaction as they’ve travelled around promoting the movie.

Lily said: “It’s got progressively more intense. The amount of people that showed up, the excitement. The first movie’s not even out yet, and already people are camping out, wearing the t-shirts, crying and fainting. It’s very strange.

“But it’s also the most special part in a way, to be one-on-one with the real fans. I was a fan before I was cast, so it feels really cool to connect with other people as a fan. It’s been mental, but it’s been really exciting as well.”

Robert added: “We had a lot of people camp out at the LA premiere, the night before, and Harold [Zwart], our director, went out and fed them hot soup as they were waiting, which was quite cool.”

The 24-year-old actress also revealed getting into character as confused teen Clary had helped her confront some of her own issues.

Lily said: “Clary is so confused and she’s going through this whole identity crisis thing, which you mainly go through in your teenage years, but you never really figure out.

“I think her whole journey is about her figuring out it’s OK to be confused, and be wrong and vulnerable and scared, it’s how you deal with those situations and finding the strengths in your weaknesses.

“And I learned from playing her in doing that myself. It encouraged me to look beneath certain emotions that I have and pinpoint how I can work through them.”
