Yet another company has come up with a set top box showing internet tv streams. And with a remote like Nintendo’s Wii, presents another reason to start observance free ad-supported and on demand television true from the net.
The new device by inauguration company with the impressive name ‘ZillionTV’ has started a new service to allow conducting wire and satellite subscribers to delete that monumental monthly bill and get all the free TV episodes and movies from the Internet staraight onto big screen TV.
So is this a splash in the pan or maybe something that’ll take off? Well the company may only be only days old but it has an impressive connections and has struck agreements with many big name companies. The companies include Disney, 20th Century Fox Television, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. amongst others.
So the deal is that you buy the settop box which looks quite snazzy by the way. Then stream movies and live internet TV shows directly to your television set via your broadband connection. After making the initial bargain, the viewer could browse a pick of VOD titles, then view a number of preroll ads (interactive?) then view the streaming subject. It is aiming to launch with 15,000 titles.
Other features include no subscriptions and a dedication program, which will reward viewers for watching internet TV and interacting with advertisement. These points could then be redeemed for material trade goods.
ZillionTV is expected to be available in the US in the fourth quarter 2010.
ITV one of the big UK TV networks have seen monolithic profit losses. Is it due to the Internet TV boom?
Well partly yes, the fact that viewing habits have changed and the availability of content is now so massive has had an result on interview figures and advertising revenue.
The company say it intends to make efficiency savings in its business of £50m this year and £70m next year. With savings to be made in “central services and across ITV studios operations outside the London area”.
ITV’s network syllabus budget of £1bn will be cut back by £65m this year, held flat next year and cut a further £70m in 2011.
The company will also sell its social networking website Friends Reunited and online business directory Scoot. Also scaling back on regional web TV service ITV Local.
Even its website ventures have been tanking with a rise in losses from £12m in 2007 to £20m last year. ITV said this was due to a fall in profits at Friends Reunited, investing in itv.com and costs relating to the closure of Kangaroo, the online TV venture with transport 4 and BBC Worldwide.
However on a brighter side, revenue from its online streaming catch up tv service increased by 9% to £36m.
