Maryland jujitsu schools believe that martial arts and the movie industry is a love hate relationship. A Movie can help to get a person interested in training Martial Arts. Movies are very influential in a person’s life as much as people hate to admit it. If someone watches an action movie and the hero is beating up bad guys with Muay Thai, people are going to be interested in Muay Thai. That interest is enough to make someone inquire and call a Muay Thai school for more information. Then the Muay Thai school can try to make that prospective client a member of their school. On the other hand the movie industry can be a detriment to a martial arts style. Fighters who train MMA in MD will cringe whenever they see bad martial arts in movies. For example the movie “Never Back Down” was about mixed martial arts. That movie was so stylized and over-the-top with their action. There was a lot of bad techniques being displayed in that movie. The movie also wasn’t a good representation of the mixed martial arts lifestyle either. Watching a movie wont give you a realistic idea of how much hard work and time you will have to put in to become a fighter. However, the reality of what you need to do to be the best cannot be accomplished by doing a real life movie montage. Not many people are willing to do what it takes to become a champion.

The movie industry always has the most to gain, they have nothing to loose from inaccurately portraying martial arts. The movie production company gets all your money. Everybody loves action movies; it doesn’t matter how good or bad the action is people will still watch it. It’s like watching a train wreck, you don’t want to watch it so you cover your eyes with your hands, but that doesn’t stop you from looking through your fingers. Student who do self defense classes in Maryland also benefit by being inspired to learn techniques that might save their life.
