Though almost all children play make-believe, it’s the girls who, more often than not, continue the fantasy and seriously think about acting as a career. For parents of these tween and teen girls, a summer acting camp is a great way to help them toward realizing these dreams. Attending anywhere from one week to two months, girls are able to learn every aspect of the acting craft, from performing to writing, directing and set construction.
Generally, days are loosely scheduled, with set times for meals, rehearsals, lessons and performances, but with plenty of leisure time for reading, resting or active participation in games and sports. Free swim periods are always available, as are horseback riding, backpacking and similar outdoor pursuits. For the most part, however, girls who are specializing in acting are kept busy learning lines, blocking plays, enhancing their skills and in other ways enveloped in learning all elements of their craft. Every evening includes the opportunity to perform and display their newly acquired knowledge while entertaining their fellow campers.
The teaching staff is comprised of professionals in all phases of acting, from both stage and film. Writers, directors, producers, actors and every other role in the extensive network of show business members are represented at acting camp for kids. One-on-one lessons are available as are small group workshops in each niche of the art. Rehearsals and productions are polished and delivered in a strictly professional manner, often attended by agents and directors who are always interested in unearthing fresh talent. Acting camps also give campers training in the art of auditioning which includes the kind of self-presentation that will benefit them in many other situations. Also regularly present are guest speakers who may be well-known actors, directors and writers from both motion pictures and live theater.
Parents have a wide array of choice when it comes to the length of time their kids can attend camp, anywhere from a single weekend to the entire summer. During the shorter terms, lessons are highly focused on a particular component of acting, while long-term sessions spread out the educational experience and allow campers to dabble in other areas of interest like art, singing and dancing as well as to enjoy regular camp activities such as sports, games, campfires and socializing.
Regardless of the length of her stay, any girl who aspires to be a star can learn and fulfill her dreams at a top-rated summer acting camp.
