Oprah Winfrey has insisted a movie about her life would be “boring”.
The US chat show host, who has made her name talking to other people about their lives, admitted she wouldn’t want to see a film made about her own past.
“Oh no. I would not consider a movie about my life. My life is basically boring,” she told Deadline.
But Oprah said she may consider writing her autobiography, following Nelson Mandela‘s advice.
“I don’t want to name-drop here but Nelson Mandela did say to me that he thought I should do it one day. He said, ‘You should do it for your own record; you should get the record straight’,” she added.
The 59-year-old TV presenter and actress – who made her film debut in Steven Spielberg‘s The Colour Purple in 1985 – makes a return to the big screen in Lee Daniels‘ The Butler. Her last acting appearance on the big screen was 14 years ago in Beloved, an adaptation of Toni Morrison‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
She admitted her role as Gloria Gaines in The Butler was tougher than the one she played in The Colour Purple.
“There’s no comparison. That was almost 27 years ago… and at the time nobody knew who I was. It was easier to be on screen. Nobody was saying, ‘Gee, that’s Oprah’,” she said.
“This was harder this time for me, because I’ve worked 25 years and I am Oprah, and people see me as Oprah. So to do a movie and have people not see you as Oprah – that’s hard.”
