Shorts
Finally a children’s movie that everyone can enjoy. Shorts has a story and script that is cute, charming and overwhelmingly funny enough to suit anyone. This movie seems to get kids completely and even reminds parents of what it is like to be a kid. The story follows that an 11 year old boy finds a mysterious magical rock with the power to grant wishes, but as can be expected once word gets out, both kids and adults are willing to do anything for the stone. Adults have the added benefit of being able to appreciate a great cast with Jon Cryer and William H. Macy giving great performances.
Inglourious Basterds
This is a must seen for any Quentin Tarantino fan, as he wishes for this movie to be considered his masterpiece and has said that it is the best writing he has ever done. This holocaust movie follows two story lines each with people seeking revenge against the Nazis. While one should never make light of such an event, when put against the long string of depressing Holocaust films, this complete revenge fantasy is a nice break from the somber. Then of course you have Brad Pitt giving an amazing performance.
Post Grad
Starring Alexis Bledel this movie features a new college graduate who had the plan of getting good grades, graduating and getting her dream job. Things don’t go as planned and she is forced to move back in with her family and form a new plan. This movie is interesting if only because there are a number of college graduates approaching this situation today. But overall the movie seems to have little promise because everything seems to be trying for the magic and awkwardness of Little Miss Sunshine but ends up being just awkward. The reason for this is that when you read about her quirky family it is too much to be realistic and it keeps any information about the main character being divulged.

Ponyo
While this may be one Disney movie that has not gotten the usual fanfare it is being hailed by the critics as a beautiful work of art. This movie is based on an ancient Japanese creation myth and follows the story of a young boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who dreams of becoming human. This movie is not only beautifully done but it is a great way to bring the past alive and get children to learn about ancient mythology.
