Whether you are looking for the fun of a flying Robot or the moving tale of Amelia Earhart the box office is here for you.

Amelia

This movie looks to be fantastic, not because of the actors (don’t get me wrong Gere is great, but I’ve never really gotten around to liking Swank), but because of the cinematography. I say this because the period is painstakingly recreated and some scenes just look beautiful but the story line will sometimes leave much to be desired. With this movie we all know the ending just like we all knew the ending to M*A*S*H* and the Titanic but we watch because we want to know the story behind the scenes and not because we’re held in suspense of the ending. This movie pretends that the ending is not immediately known and for that some scenes might seem unnecessary. But as always expect a brilliant performance from Gere.

Astro Boy

When I first saw previews for this movie I had absolutely no desire to see it. It looked a little over the top, very cheesy and just nothing original. It seems I may have been wrong because critics are giving it higher praise than I would have expected. Though the movie will have the plot that you know by heart the second you sit down, there is witty dialogue and plenty of action. The story may fall at the seams at times but when you can already expect the way things are going to go, why not play up the action?

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

I don’t know about you but I am really really tired of Vampire movies, especially cheesy young adult vampire movies. This is another vampire movie based on a book and it seems like everyone is fighting to get on the vampire bandwagon. In this movie a Vampire’s Assistant  screws up (now that’s novel) and threatens to worsen a feud between two groups of vampires. The movie does have an emotional element as the assistant is just a young boy who has been turned into a vampire and is trying to keep a hold on his humanity. Now I love a good vampire story as much as the next guy but this is just another movie geared toward young girls who are anxiously awaiting the new Twilight movie.

Saw VI

I probably don’t even have to mention this one, as it’s Halloween, but yes the latest installment of Saw has been released. I will admit to have never seen a single one of these because I am not one for tremendously gory films no matter how much people tell me it is more about the psychological puzzles than anything else. This movie is the same thoroughfare as all the others so get ready for a truly gore-filled horror fest.
