District 9 and the Time Traveler’s Wife open as some of the best movies of the year. There is one for the guys and one for the ladies, but both of them should be watched by all.
New on DVD: One for the girls and one for the guys – and it’s the same movie.
I Love You, Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Box Set make this Tuesday one to spend at home watching some old and new favorites.
Weekend Box Office: G.I Joe breaks out of the Mold
After a few weeks of relatively disapointing Box Office returns G.I Joe: Rise of the Cobra brought fans of all ages to the theaters.
In Theaters Now: Something for everyone but the kids.
It is a bit surprising that the kids get no new releases this week, as they flock to the theaters in summer, but they are left with a slew of other choices Harry Potter, G-Force, Aliens in the Attic and Ice Age, are all still in threaters for kids to get away from the heat. For the adults, we’ve got something for the ladies, something for the action junkies, and something if you’re into suspense.
New on DVD: Global Warming Psychos, Schizophrenics and Aliens, what more could you ask for?
So my first choice this week is a movie that you most likely haven’t heard of. after I heard about the plot for The Chaos Experiment, I figured it could either be a great movie or be so bad you just have to laugh at it.
Weekend Box Office: “Funny People” is funny enough to bring in the crowds.
Harry Potter remains in the number 2 slot, but this time the movie knocking it down a peg, isn’t G-Force, it’s Funny People. Coming in at over $20 million for the weekend Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan had a good showing.
In Theaters Now: “Aliens” for the kids and “Funny People” for the adults
Funny People I think is going to take a lot of people by surprise, because it’s more than a comedy and when it changes it never goes the direction you expect. The good thing about this movie is that it seems real, it doesn’t make the assumption that incredible situations turn people into self-sacrificing, perfect individuals, which to me is incredibly intriguing.
New on DVD: The real “Fast and Furious” Sequel.
While this may have been the fourth installment in the Fast & Furious series, for me it’s the only real sequel worth mentioning. The original characters are back and they’re working together while trying to deal with the fact that once again the law is between them. The writing is fairly well-done for what was possibly expected to be another fast cars action flick, and the characters are much deeper and there is a much more intricate plot than you’ll find in the basic action film.
Weekend Box Office: Secret Agent Guinea Pigs take out “Potter”
G-Force takes the cake this weekend narrowly beating out Harry Potter. The two movies grossed just over the $30 million mark for the weekend.
In Theaters Now: Guinea Pigs and Politics take center stage.
In the Loop stars Peter Capaldi, James Gandolfini and Tim Hollander, and tells about the interactions of Britain and the U.S. over the thought of going to war.Critics and moviegoers alike have hailed this movie as being among the freshest films we’ll see this summer, and I could not agree more.
