How to Soundproof Your Home Theater

Do you like going to the movies, but dislike the costs? Do you enjoy the feel of relaxing at the movies, but can’t stand when kids don’t want to be quiet long enough for you to understand the plot of the latest James Bond flick? Well, these problems can be easily resolved with the construction of your own home theater. If you have the funds and the space, a new room for your home theater is ideal. However, most of us don’t have the money nor the space to add an entire room to our home. If you are interested in converting a room in your home to a home theater, then you will likely want to soundproof that room.

Soundproofing a room for a home theater is much like soundproofing a room for a recording studio in your home, but you are more concerned with sounds getting out than you are with sounds coming in. If you are able to install your theater in the basement of your home, soundproofing can be simplest by placing the theater in a corner where two of the walls are concrete and earthen backed. The ceiling and other two walls would be the only areas in need of soundproofing.

The easiest way to get started on soundproofing an existing room in your home for your new home theater is by building a room within a room. Of course, this method takes a large room to begin. By framing new walls against the existing walls, you are able to use more insulation and thus helping the quietness of the room. If there is sealed dead air space between the new wall and existing wall, that dead air acts as an insulation in itself that helps to deter more sound that you may imagine. A good batt insulation such as Roxul AFB or Roxul Safe can be very effective if placed in the rafters or in between studs. The excess cavities should be filled with a high quality rock wool or mineral wool. Attaching vinyl to the studs will also help to deter a great amount of sound because vinyl vibrates and absorbs sound. When installing the vinyl, it is best to have a professional do the installation process. You, as the homeowner, will want to make sure that the installer attaches the vinyl correctly by overlapping if possible, and caulking all areas that could resonate sound. The vinyl is there to absorb the sound, not just act as a deterrent.

Finally, when installing a home theater, you should always consider two layers of drywall. The two layers will absorb more sound and help to soundproof the room even more. If you are going to use a double layer of drywall, make sure to use a good quality adhesive to help hold the two layers together. This is done by simply applying a layer of construction glue to the back of the second layer of drywall before installation. If the original drywall was installed correctly, simply screwing the second layer to the first, along with the glue, will hold it in place.

Although these suggestions will likely completely soundproof your new home theater, you may wish to give the room a traditional theater look. You may wish to add acoustical tiles to the ceiling and acoustical draperies to the walls. By taking some if not all of these suggestions, your home theater should be a place of quiet repose when catching up your favorite John Wayne films or the newest adventure in the Star Wars saga.

Audi R8 “Warm Up” TV Commercial

Audi R8 “Warm up” with new sport car’s TV commercial. The new Audi commercial will showcase the 70 years of the company in the field of motor racing. The title of the commercial is “Warm Up” which will be premiered in Germany on April 6 together with the Blockbuster movie “I, Robot” starring Will Smith and the Audi RSQ on the RTL channel.

The commercial was taken in Mexico and took six days to shoot. The tagline for the said commercial was: “The Audi R8–Born of powerful ideas.” The production was spearheaded by Hamburg agency kempertrautmann.

According to Jagoda Becic, Head of Advertising at Audi AG–luxury unit of Volkswagen and recipient of quality VW spoilers, “Time and time again during recent decades, Audi has led the way forward with its innovative technologies: the mid-mounted engine, aluminum lightweight construction, Quattro drive and our FSI petrol direct injection technology. We’re bringing all this together in the new Audi R8, and our journey through time creates a link from our new sports car to the core values of our brand.”

The commercial was filmed in Mexico last December and Gerhard Kiefer, responsible for the production of commercials at Audi, explained that, “We chose Mexico as the location for several reasons, the most important being that we had access to two racetracks at the same time for the filming work and that this location enabled us to obtain top-class technical equipment and props from nearby Hollywood.”

Not less than three Lorries were taken to load the clothing, wigs, false moustaches and accessories from different eras plus kilos of make-ups to make sure that the five actors and 1,050 extras were authentically attired.

It was vital to the film that the wardrobes used were in line with the different eras. Also to provide that historical feel, backdrops were made plus there are also a range of vintage cars used comprising of five original vehicles from the 1920s and 1930s, six original 1950s vehicles and the replica of an Auto Union Type C racing car dating back to 1937—all of which were transported to the location.

The filming took six days at two different locations in Mexico wherein three days of which were spent by the team shooting at Mexico City’s Autodrome track situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters. From Autodrome the team head to a private racetrack where they filmed for the next three days. The said private racetrack is located at the vicinity of Tulancingo. Cameraman Ian Foster, who worked on productions such as James Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies” and “Alexander” directed by Oliver Stone, shot no less than ten kilometers of film.

The post-production phase of the commercial was done in London where it was edited in HD quality— a process that took one and half month to finish.

The TV commercial starts by displaying a racetrack dating back to the 1930s. And away from the track, you can see racing cars being prepared for the big event. There were photographers and reporters flocking around the crowd of excited spectators when suddenly the Audi R8 drives through the scene.

For the succeeding years portrayed in the commercial–50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, the new Audi R8 will do the same entrance as it did in the 1930s part of the commercial. And leading up the whole moment when the R8 finally takes up a pole position on the grid at an ultra-modern circuit crowded with onlookers. There will also be a commentator that would be listing Audi’s engineering achievements down the years.

Afterwards the starting lights at the racetrack would fade and then the commentator would say “70 years of preparation – for this start.” The lights flick off and the R8 powers away and then enter the tagline “The Audi R8 – Born of powerful ideas”.

What Has Happened To The Famous British Car Manufacturers?

The Great British Empire used to rule the world and then became the richest nation in the world. But of course time moves on and we would expect change and wealth to be spread throughout other nations. But one of the major blunders of last century has got be the creation of famous motoring marques and the inability to keep these famous car manufacturing brands afloat.

Can you imaging Ford, Chrysler, GM motors in the USA ever stop making cars? Could you imaging the Japanese such as Honda, Nissan, and Mazda ever stop making cars? Then when you come back to Europe, could you imagine Italy allowing Fiat or Ferrari to close down and stop making cars? Of course you couldn’t and the fact is, it just wouldn’t happen and this would be the case in several other nations around the world.

Several manufacturers in the States have at time been in financial trouble, have got through those time because it was essential to survive. Fiat in recent times, have been in trouble because of unreliable cars, but they are still here.

However in the UK we don’t seem to see the value in maintaining our motoring heritage, if it can’t be profitable, then it must die, it does not matter about the marque or how the world sees the UK. Ironically from a nation that has so much history within such a small island, you would also think that it would mean much more.

Here are some examples

Austin 1905 to 1986

Hilman 1907 to 1976

Lagonda 1906 to 1990

Alvis 1920 to 1967

MG 1923 to 2005

Morris 1913 to 1984

Riley 1906 to 1969

Triumph 1923 to 1984

Sunbeam 1899 to 1976

There are some names still around, Lotus owned by GM motors, Mini owned by BMW, Land Rover owned by BMW, Jaguar owned by Ford and of course James Bond’s favourite car the Aston Martin, which has just been bought by a consortium back from Ford. Lets hope it remains in the UK!

The MG may also find its way back on to the UK roads but owned by a Chinese company, Nanjing Automobile, which is quite a horrifying thought as these cars will probably be made in China, but from a positive point of view, I doubt Nanjing will ever go bust. The Chinese just won’t let it.

Ironically in Sunderland in the North East of England there is a Nissan factory that produces some of Nissans smaller cars. This factory regularly beats other Nissan factories around the world in quantity and quality, so the issue in the UK is not about the workforce, within the right environment we can match anyone.

The issue is around management, controlling costs and the support from the government, that all large businesses need a hand from time to time. A lot of British Marques disappeared in the seventies when many of the brand names came together as British Leyland. This was probably the biggest mistake in British car manufacturing, as cars were badly made, suffered from strikes for bad working conditions and benefits and there was just no pride in the brand.

Yet in the 21st century we can make foreign brands with a pride and a high standard for other brands. Lets hope we hold on to the names that have survived, even if they are owned by foreign manufacturers, at least there is a chance, just like Aston Martin they may eventually return to British ownership.
